Heritage Cottage
The renovation of this heritage-listed 1890s timber cottage struck a balance between modern comfort and preserving its historical character. The old part of the house retains the historical charm, while the new part features a contemporary kitchen flowing to the back garden and modern bathrooms. We added an attic space that became a favourite children’s place and a separate office/granny flat built from old sandstock bricks. We meticulously insulated walls, roofs, and floors to minimise heat transfer, ensuring comfort year-round. By thoughtfully leveraging cross-ventilation strategies, we enhance natural airflow, creating a refreshing interior. The use of thermal mass stabilises indoor temperatures, providing a cozy environment. Eaves and mechanical blinds shield the cottage from harsh sunlight. We repurposed old timber and employed eco-friendly materials, minimising our environmental impact. We used Spapanel instead of tiles in the bathrooms—quick installation, great look and maintenance-free.
